Whzan Remote Monitoring

Whzan Remote Monitoring

LinCA and the Lincolnshire ICB are leading a strategic programme to expand and optimise the use of the Whzan Blue Box remote monitoring system across all care homes in the county.

This initiative supports the region’s Digital Roadmap and aims to strengthen adult social care through innovative technology.

The programme focuses on:

  • Improving how care homes use Whzan to monitor residents’ health
  • Understanding current use across care homes, Primary Care Networks and Enhanced Health in Care Homes (EHCH) teams
  • Identifying opportunities, challenges and shared priorities
  • Reducing unnecessary 999 calls and attendance at A&E through earlier detection and better triage

Impact and Outcomes

Care homes recorded over 40,000 clinical observations in 2025 using Whzan. Feedback from care home providers highlights that the technology is:

  • Improving early identification of deterioration through trend analysis
  • Enhancing collaboration with PCNs, GPs and the Clinical Assessment Service
  • Enabling prompt remote triage, reducing avoidable hospital visits
  • Ensuring clinicians have complete and clear access to observations
  • Saving staff time through accurate, time‑stamped documentation
  • Increasing staff confidence in taking and interpreting observations
  • Strengthening overall clinical oversight and raising care quality standards

LinCA plans to continue working with care homes and system partners to expand and embed Whzan across the sector, helping carers quickly identify changes in residents’ health and ultimately supporting people to remain safe, well and comfortable in their care home.
